With a maximum of four students to each of our instructors, you will gain confidence and experience unmatched by any other dive lessons. With this approach, your instructor can more easily target specific areas that you need attention to, rather than wasting your time while they concentrate on other students. As a result you will get more time having fun diving, finishing the course a much better diver. This lets you complete your course with only 2 days of in-water training.

(note: if you have a group of more than three you can still learn together all we do is add another instructor to keep the student to instructor ratio at a maximum of 3 students for each instructor)

Shark Shield - Proven Shark Protection
We have been teaching in the area every week for 10 years and have never seen a dangerous shark. Although the risks of encountering a dangerous shark in the areas are negligible, to ensure your peace of mind, we teach all our open water courses under the protection of a Shark Shield.

Diving is a very social sport, so we would like to encourage you to bring a friend by giving you both a discount:
Bring one friend and save $25 each
Bring 2 or more friends and save $50 each

eLearning makes learning to dive simple

Learning to scuba dive has never been more convenient!

This is quick and easy with only small classes (4 students per instructor). You will maximise your learning while giving you great flexibility.

Designed with the busy diver in mind, eLearning is all about convenience – the opportunity to begin and continue diver education beginning on the internet and continuing through PADI Dive Centers and Resorts. Through an interactive web-based program new students will read, hear and see the same material other student divers receive from interacting with the PADI Open Water Diver manual and Video or Multimedia Simply sign up online and begin your eLearning (it takes 8-10 hours to complete this program online). Book the days you would like to do your in-water sessions then complete your elearning theory online. Your in water training is reduced to 2 days because we have no more than 4 students for each of our instructors, eliminating waiting time like in standard groups of 8 or more! You will then be a diver, ready to enjoy this fantastic sport.
Itinerary

The itinerary for the eLearning course is:

Saturday 8:00am to 5:00pm Pool Session 1-5 & Open Water Dive 1
Sunday 8:00am to 5:00pm Open Water Dives 2, 3 & 4

Sign up on line and come in or have us post out your theory work (Manual & DVD). You watch the DVD and read the manual in your own time. After that you need to come in and do a days theory.

Finally your in-water training is completed in just 2 more days. This is reduced to 2 days because we have no more than 4 students for each of our instructors, eliminating time waiting in groups of 8 or more. You will then be a diver, ready to enjoy this fantastic sport.

Itinerary

The itinerary for the Traditional course is:

Day 1
10:30am to 3:30pm Theory Session
Saturday
8:30am to 5:00pm Pool Session 1-5 & Open Water Dive 1
Sunday
8:00am to 5:00pm Open Water Dives 2, 3 & 4

To become a scuba diver, you need to be comfortable in the water and have basic swimming skills. Your instructor will have you do a 200 metre swim or 300 metre mask, snorkel and fins swim and a ten minute float to determine if you have basic swimming abilities. You should also be in good overall general health, particularly your respiratory and circulatory systems.

In addition to the online knowledge development portion of the PADI Open Water Diver course, you’ll need to complete inwater training.

Because of various laws and regulations governing children and the internet, you must be at least 12 years old to participate in the PADI Open Water Diver Course online.

Learning to dive is fun and exciting, but it is a learning experience and you need to commit to learning the information. The most important thing is that you, and you alone, complete all the Quick Quizzes, Knowledge Reviews, the section quizzes and the final exam. These assessments help ensure you understand the basic principles and guidelines of diving. In addition to the online assessments, your instructor will have you complete a Quick Review prior to PADI Open Water Diver certification.

You must complete a medical examination before any inwater training. Download the 'Medical Form' form here.

Prior to the inwater training you will be required to complete a liability release or acknowledgement form stating you understand the risks of diving and agree to assume those risks. In addition, you’ll also need to complete a PADI Standard Safe Diving Practices Statement of Understanding. This outlines safe dive practices and reminds you of your responsibility to follow them while diving. The PADI Open Water Diver course online allows you to complete the knowledge development portion of your course on your own time. You'll have one year to complete the entire program and you'll have unlimited access to the PADI Open Water Diver Manual online for reference both during and after the course.

Comments: I'd done the Open Water Diver already years ago but with a different company (Not PADI nor Abyss) and thought I'd redo the whole course to catch up again. This course was definitely better than the one I had before. Thank you Abyss Team!

Comments: Initially I didn't want to do the open water diving course because I'm really scared of deep water. But after doing the Abyss open water dive course I have completly changed my mind! Our dive instructor Emma was really patient and encouraging, and I loved every minute of it! The under water world is so unique, and I can't believe it took me such a long time to discover it! We're doing a double shore dive at Kurnell this weekend which we are really looking forward to, and can't wait to do more. W... More details

Comments: I highly recommend learning at Abyss. The course was well presented and the instructors Cem and Derrig very helpful, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. I learnt a lot, enjoyed the four course dives and look forward to more diving with Abyss.
